Farriers Formula

Over 25 years of equine nutritional research, clinical trials and field testing have gone into every cup of Farrier's Formula®. While no single nutrient is the key to a healthy hoof, studies show that most horses with hoof problems respond to better overall nutrition. Farrier's Formula® provides lecithin, DL- methionine, ascorbic acid, copper, zinc, biotin, and other nutrients that allow the horse's liver and hoof corium to build and assemble a highly crosslinked hoof wall that is denser and more resistant to cracking or drying out.

Farrier’s Formula® works because it furnishes all the nutrients known to be deficient if there is a problem with hoof growth and or hoof quality.

Life Data Labs  recommends Life Data Hoof Disinfectant TM in combination with  Farrier’s Formula® to provide complete hoof care and help reduce hoof infections such as Thrush and White Line Disorder.

The specifics of the nutrients in Farrier’s Formula® are listed below:

How Farrier's Formula Works:

Biotin alone is not enough to correct poor horn quality in most cases, as it’s only one of many nutrients needed by the adult horse. In fact, the adult horse is said to have no dietary requirement for biotin unless under stress conditions such as intense work, traveling, being stabled for long periods or being fed a low-quality diet. And even under these conditions, biotin deficiency is relatively rare, and is usually accompanied by many other dietary deficiencies. Horses which respond to biotin supplementation alone (approximately 5% of those with poor-quality horn) show large holes in the outermost layer of the wall when viewed under a microscope. The inner layers of the wall were usually not affected. If you’d like to confirm that your horse is not biotin-deficient, there’s a relatively inexpensive blood test your veterinarian can perform for you.

Methionine, proline, glycine and glutamine are some of the major building blocks of healthy connective tissue, or collagen. Copper and vitamin C are also necessary, serving as catalysts in the formation of strong and healthy horn. All these nutrients should be supplied via diet or supplementation for healthy hooves.

Essential fatty acids are necessary for a healthy, shiny coat, as well as the proper moisture maintenance and pliability of the hoof structure. Your horse can obtain these fatty acids from grain, unprocessed grain oils, cooked whole soybeans, or the lecithin found in processed grains and supplements.

Healthy hooves require zinc for the prevention of defective keratin, the tough material found in the outer layers of hoof and skin. If keratin is not properly formed, the hoof will be soft and brittle. You can provide the proper quantities of zinc through diet or supplementation.

Farrier's Formula Now Contains 20 mg of Biotin

Biotin is a B-vitamin produced in excess in the ceacum and large intestine if the intestinal track is performing properly. Biotin is necessary for maintaining healthy dermal tissue including the hoof and can be deficient as result of intestinal stress or upset. Therefore, Biotin has been an ingredient in Farrier's Formula for 25 years.

Life Data Labs has now added an additional amount of Biotin to Farrier's Formula to furnish 20 mg per 6 oz serving. The reason for this addition is twofold: Research has not shown that more than the physiological amount of Biotin (5 mg/day) improves hoof growth and strength; however, our recent research indicates that an increased amount of Biotin helps the hoof in the presence of laminitis. Additionally, our automated manufacturing process (weighing, processing, and packaging) better preserves Biotin as well as the other nutrients in Farrier's Formula. Our guaranteed analysis has been updated as a result of our recent technological advances in our manufacturing process. These improvements have been confirmed by independent laboratory analysis.

For over thirty years Life Data Labs Farrier's Formula has been
helping horse owners properly care for their valued friends.
